Continue the story of Promare in this free VN

My World Still Burns is a free simulation video game wherein you can celebrate an anime movie’s second anniversary. Developed by cloverfirefly, this 2D indie visual novel is a fangame for the Japanese animated film, Promare, and stars several of the main characters in a funny but sweet little story.

Similar to Use Your Outside Voice, Richie Tozier!, My World Still Burns stars a familiar cast to those who’ve watched the aforementioned movie. Take note, however, that this game contains major spoilers and has two characters in a non-canon romantic relationship. Additionally, it doesn’t have all planned CGs available yet.

Made for fans of the GaloLio ship

Promare is a 2019 Japanese animated film that follows the story of an alternate world history—wherein a strange phenomenon has random people suddenly gaining destructive flame powers. In the aftermath, these people called Burnish are now considered dangerous individuals constantly being suppressed by society. One day, a newbie firefighter encounters the very leader of the Burnish terrorist group, and they both get entangled in a terrible conspiracy about the Burnish.

The main story of My World Still Burns takes place two years after the events of the movie. Here, characters Galo and Lio are now in a steady relationship and their own anniversary is coming up soon so both are planning to surprise the other. There’s not much gameplay involved here since there are no dialogue options and you’ll mostly just follow the characters around in a linear story

However, while you’ll just be reading, you won’t be able to appreciate the full game as its CGs aren’t finished. There are sketch placeholders for them—showing you what the scenes look like—but only the character sprites and backgrounds are completely done. This means that you’ll have to check back for an update on this game if you want to see them properly.

Best to know the movie first

All in all, My World Still Burns is a great fangame if you liked the movie and ship Galo and Lio together. The story is complete, isn’t too long, and doesn’t bother you with finding other endings. However, the CG art you get is only rough sketches. Additionally, you can’t really appreciate this game in its entirety if you’ve never watched the film since it has huge spoilers.
